Infrastructure

Infrastructure

The infrastructure plays a crucial role in ensuring that the training provided meets the standards set by the aviation authority and prepares students for their roles as aircraft maintenance engineers and technicians. The training infrastructure has been planned keeping in view the DGCA requirements as per CAR-147 (Basic). Modern smart classrooms, well equipped workshops and a hangar are available for the conduct of the programme to provide general ambience of a sophisticated factory shop-floor in keeping with the nature of the engineering functions. The entire premises are air-conditioned with full power back-up arrangements. Jamia Millia Islamia provides a world-class infrastructure for its engineering students and B.Sc. (Aeronautics) students will also share a part of this infrastructure. New Workshops/Laboratories have also been developed in the premises of the university to fulfil the requirements of syllabus of B.Sc. (Aeronautics) and to meet the requirements of DGCA for Basic aircraft maintenance engineering training syllabus.

Class-Rooms

The training institute has three class-rooms with comfortable seating capacity for 30 students in each class room. There is a wide scope for more class rooms at the university premises as may be required in future. Classrooms are provided with modern training aids like overhead LCD projectors to assist in giving visual demonstrations and presentations.

Workshops

The training institute has well equipped and spacious workshops for imparting practical training to students. Each workshop is built to world standards, properly lighted, well ventilated, furnished and free from noise, and with a centralized fire extinguishing system. The various workshops include Basic Mechanical and Sheet Metal Shop, Basic Electrical, Electrical system & Avionics Shop, Jet Engine and Piston Engine Shop, Helicopter System Shop, Instruments Shop, Radio Navigation Shop, NDT Shop, Wheels and Tyres Shop, Machine Shop, Battery Shop and Welding Shop. The helicopter system shop boasts of various airframe related structures like a fuselage, control surfaces, systems & components, and functional system mock-ups such as Landing Gear Retraction, Pneumatic & Hydraulic, Bernoulli's Principle Model and Vapor Cycle Machine mock-up.

An Engine workshop is equipped with various types of aircraft engines for students' skill training and practical demonstrations, including Turbojet, Turboprop, APU, and Piston engines. Engines are available in cut-view and in sections and also in a dismantled condition for imparting student's practical knowledge and for skill development. Also separately, various engine parts/components and supporting equipment such as lifting tables, hoisting crane and a pallet truck are available.

The Basic Mechanical shop is equipped with necessary facilities for fitting work, riveting work, and sheet metal work and also endowed with various advanced tools and precision tools, such as Granite Surface Plate equipment, Hand-Shear and Pneumatic Compressor. The Propeller shop is provided with propeller system and components, propeller blades, variable pitch propeller governor, and a functional mock-up of pitch change mechanism. A well-equipped NDT lab has been built with ultrasonic testing machine, MPI Test equipment, Dye Penetrant, UV light, Brinell Hardness Tester, Rockwell Hardness Tester and Impact Testers.

Additionally, a fully equipped Machine shop and a Welding shop has been set up. All the three Avionics Labs viz Instrument Shop, Radio Navigation and Basic Electrical, Electrical System & Avionics Shop are equipped with variable AC & DC power supply. The Electrical lab boasts of various electrical equipment like aircraft electrical system components, basic electrical & electronic workshop, functional electrical & electronic system mock-ups such as a Transformer Rectifier Unit (TRU), Under voltage indication relay, DC generation, DC motor speed control, three phase alternator, Relay testing unit, Transformer, Aircraft AC generator system with GCU, Aircraft landing light and exterior light.

The Instrument lab has been equipped with various aircraft flight instruments, gyro instruments, engine instruments and functional mock-ups like Airspeed indicator system, Compass swinging, Altimeter test chamber, RPM indicator, Fire & smoke detector, Aircraft fuel quantity & fuel flow indication, Thermocouple principle.

The Radio shop is equipped with various advanced aircraft radio system components and functional mock-ups like weather radar, DME, Capacitor charging and discharging, Frequency generation and ESDS facility. The Battery lab is having various aircraft batteries like Ni-Cd & Lead acid battery, battery cut view, battery charging facility for both Lead acid & Ni-Cd battery, Load testing facility, Battery analyser.
